Why families & schools choose CATTS
WE HEAR THIS A LOT
Many families choose CATTS after trying in-person therapy. Here’s why.
If you searched “online speech therapy” with some hesitation. Wondering whether a screen could really deliver what a clinic room can, you are in good company. Most of the families we work with asked exactly the same question. Many came to us after time on an in-person waiting list, or after an in-person experience that wasn’t quite right. Here is what they found.
🗓️ No waiting list
In-person clinics in Ireland often have waiting times of six months to over a year. We typically offer a first appointment within two weeks.
🏡 Therapy happens in the real environment
Children practise communication at home, at the table, with their own toys. Online therapy happens in exactly that environment, which research shows can accelerate progress.
👨👩👧 Parents are part of every session
In clinic-based therapy, parents often wait outside. Online, you are involved which means you learn the strategies too, and can use them every day between sessions.
🇮🇪 Available anywhere in Ireland
No commute, no traffic, no parking. Whether you are in Dublin or Donegal, Kerry or Kilkenny, your therapist is one click away.
📋 Online specialism
Our therapists are trained and experienced in online delivery. It is not an afterthought for us; it is the whole practice.
🔬 The research backs it up
Multiple peer-reviewed studies and systematic reviews show online therapy achieves outcomes equivalent to in-person for most speech and language needs.
Still weighing it up? We have put together a detailed page reviewing the peer-reviewed evidence — including randomised controlled trials comparing online and in-person outcomes for children and adults.

Speech & Language Therapist is a protected title in Ireland
In Ireland, “Speech & Language Therapist” (or “Speech & Language Pathologist”) is a protected professional title. Only therapists registered with CORU – the multi-profession health regulator – are legally allowed to practise under this title.
CORU registration exists to protect the public. It ensures that therapists meet specific standards of education, training and ongoing professional development.
All Speech & Language Therapists working with CATTS are CORU registered.
How to check if a service is legitimate
If you are unsure whether a provider is a registered Speech & Language Therapist, you can:
✔Ask them for their CORU registration number.
✔Check their name on the CORU public register.
If you are considering any service using terms such as “speech coach”, “speech teacher” or “talk therapist”, we recommend checking whether a CORU-registered Speech & Language Therapist is involved.

Frequently asked questions
Does online speech therapy work?

Do I need a GP referral?
No. You can refer yourself or your child directly. We are happy to work alongside your GP or school if needed.
